On the occasion of Rights & Democracy’s international conference entitled

Implementing the Millennium Development Goals:
Our Human Rights Obligation

In June 2005, 17 representatives of Rights & Democracy Delegations from 8 Canadian provinces were invited to participate in the Rights & Democracy International Conference on Implementing the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). The goal of the meeting was to provide active members of the Rights & Democracy Network with an opportunity to:

  • Learn more about links between development and human rights;
  • Communicate their perspective on the issues to key players in the development of international cooperation policies and strategies;
  • Contribute to promoting and reinforcing the activities of university delegations around these issues.

Students were invited to draft essays on the topic. The top four essays are reproduced below:
