The Rights & Democracy Network’s 2009 Annual Event to be held April 30 to May 3 in Montreal

Representatives from Rights & Democracy Delegations from across Canada will come together for the Network’s Annual Event in Montreal from April 30-May 3, 2009. Entitled “Celebrating our Successes, Building our Future: The Participation of Youth in Democratic Processes”, the event allows members and staff of the Network to look back at what was achieved in the last year, in order to build an even stronger Network for the years to come.

The goal of this annual event is to inspire reflection and action and to develop a true commitment to the promotion and fulfillment of universal human rights. Another goal of the event is to bring together members of the Network in order to engage in a dialogue about how to use a “human rights approach” when organizing Delegation and Network activities, by sharing information and experiences.

Activities during the weekend include: networking with Rights & Democracy’s president and staff, our members, and our NGO and institutional partners; discussions on what constitutes democracy with Rights & Democracy staff; a guided tour of Montreal by the urban education collective, l’Autre Montréal on the history of social justice and democracy in Montreal; a cross-Canada picture of all of our Delegations’ activities this year which shows the strength of our Network; a strategic planning forum using an “open space” format; and brainstorming on next year’s local, regional, and national events.
