Welcome to Rights & Democracy's Network Website!
The Network is an initiative through which Rights & Democracy creates spaces in universities in Canada to encourage students to come together, propose and initiate activities and innovative projects that promote human rights and democracy. The diverse activities that make up the Network’s annual programming is, in large part, the reflection of your concerns and your actions!
The Network is made up of delegations which bring together students from the same university who organize human rights promotion and awareness activities on their campus and in their community.
Since the creation of the Network in September 2003, Rights & Democracy delegations have been set up in universities across the country, from Nanaimo to St. John’s! Every year, over 20 delegations, which are eligible to receive funding from the Network’s Project Fund, are active on their campuses and act directly in their community to “put the world to RIGHTs” in their own way.
During the winter of 2010, a new Network Consultative Committee will be launched to strengthen the links between Rights & Democracy, the Network team, and the members of the Network. This committee will include student members from eastern and western Canada, Network alumni, and staff. To learn more about the NCC and how you can get involved, click here.
Whether you are a university student, an alumni, a faculty member or a global citizen, you can become a member of the Network. As a member, you will receive the monthly Network Newsletter, as well as invitations to international, national, and regional events which bring together members of the Network. With your user name and password, you can access the Network’s discussion forum, where we regularly post job and internship opportunities: http://www.dd-rd.net/network-forum/.
If your delegation is not active this year, or if your university has never had a delegation, contact us to find out how to start one.
Joining a Rights & Democracy delegation is an opportunity to increase your understanding of pressing international issues, to share common interests with other passionate students, and to participate in local actions which have a global impact.
